Contestant Information
The Pig in the Park BBQ Festival and Cook-Off will be held in Williamston, South Carolina, on Friday and Saturday, May 18 -19 2012. We are offering cash prizes to a limited number of barbeque cooking teams. The application to compete in this fun event is limited to the first 24 barbeque teams who apply, are accepted, and have paid their entry fee. Please understand your entry is not complete until the committee has received your payment. Barbeque cooking teams are limited to four (4) members. It is first come, first served. Experienced, trained, and Certified SCBA Judges will handle the judging of the Boston Butt pork in this contest.
There is a $2,900 cash purse as follows: 1st place $1,200; 2nd place $700; 3rd place $500; 4th place $300; 5th place $200 and 6th thru 10th place will receive ribbons. Trophies will be given to 1st and 2nd place. First place winner will also have free entry for the following year.
Each team may provide their own shelter. Each team will be allocated one 26’w x 18’d outside space. The spots are located in the park. If you require a larger cooking area, please describe your reasons, including the sizes of grills, props, and any other items used in your cooking set-up. We value our barbeque cookers and we want to help you be successful.
A $200.00 fee must be received with each application form no later than April 11, 2012 . The fee includes _8 (case)_ Boston Butts for judging which will be collected after judging for charity. If teams are going to cook other BBQ to SELL, there is an additional $100.00 vendor fee due by April 12th also. You need to get all meat to be cooked from us. If application is received after April 11th, there is a $25.00 late fee. No applications will be accepted after April 30, 2010. The cook-off committee reserves the right to reject any entry. If your entry is not accepted, the $200.00 entry fee will be fully refunded. However, no refunds of the entry fee will be made once you have been officially accepted as a contestant.
Waiver of Liability: Contestant agrees to indemnify and hold the Pig in the Park BBQ Festival and Cook-off, the event committee, its employees, agents, and volunteers harmless from any and all claims made against same, including without limitation, all costs, liabilities, judgments, expenses, damages, or reasonable attorney’s fees arising out of or in connection with (1) any structures erected by the contestant(s), (2) any apparatus, equipment, or personal property used by the contestant(s), (3) any act or omission to act of contestant(s), its agents, invitees, participants, representatives, employees, servants, and assigns, and (4) any claims made on account of or resulting from contestant’s participation in the contest.
Please note that all South Carolina DHEC rules and regulations will be followed. Unsafe practices will result in disqualification. Raw or undercooked food will result in disqualification.
This event is sanctioned and judged by the South Carolina BBQ Association. The rules and regulations for this organization will be followed. Marshals and judges will be onsite during the event.
Teams are welcomed and encouraged to cook and sell portions of grilled or BBQ items. The event will not monitor the sale of these items nor will the event request a percentage of the sales. (only the vendor fee in required) No drinks may be sold (including but not limited to water, tea, soda, lemonade). The event hosts will be the only persons allowed to sell drinks. The event will supply 9-inch containers for entry submissions.
There is electricity at the site. Teams are responsible for providing hand washing stations and waste water capture.
Alcohol cannot be consumed in marked containers.
